Accomplishments
- Named Minnesota Pheasants Forever "Chapter of the Year" for 2008 out of 77 Minnesota Chapters. We are the only chapter to have received this traveling award twice in it's six-year history
- Hosted the 2008 Minnesota Pheasants Forever State Habitat Tour in August of 2008 in Zumbrota
- Conducted over 30 controlled burns on more than 450 acres to assist landowners' with their grassland habitat management
- Hosted three youth on the DNR's Special Mentored Youth Pheasant Hunts in October 2008/2009
- Arranged funding and supervision for the planting of over 3,000 trees & shrubs on the Buck Family Memorial WMA as part of an Eagle Scout project conducted by a Hastings Boy Scout Troop.
- Arranged and assisted for Eagle Scout Project conducted by the Hastings Boy Scout Troop on Springbrook WMA that resulted in over 2 1/2 miles of old fence being removed from the property.
- Secured two Minnesota Heritage Grants totaling $24,300 in 2007 & 2008 and completed 84 acres of native grass seeding on the new Buck Family Memorial WMA
- Certified 8 chapter volunteers as Wildland Firefighters upon completion of a 40-hour course
- Applied for and received dollars from the Lessard Council for acquisition of 325 acres on the Warsaw Wildlife Management area. Funded the survey and appraisals process of the acquisitions
- Provided $10,000 acquisition funding for a 40-acre addition to the Warsaw Wildlife Management Area
- Planted and maintained food plots on three of the county's WMA's.
- Sponsored two Advanced Youth Hunter Education Seminars for 40-50 youth at the Zumbro Valley Rifle Club
- Contracted with county farmers for approximately 50 acres per winter of food plots totaling in excess of $12,000 of payments or planting expenses
- Acquired and distributed tons of shelled corn in the past two winters to feeders in winter shelter areas
- Continued seven nesting cover project contracts and completed two new seedings totaling 84 acres
- Gave $5,000 of funding to PF's Legislative Action Fund in Washington, which has had a major influence on the conservation element of the new farm bill. PF continues to be recognized as the most influential and effective conservation organization on agricultural issues
- Contributed $4,000 to PF's Minnesota Habitat Fund (MHF), which has been involved in the acquisition of 9,440 acres in MInnesota for WMA's since 1998. The MHF has invested over 1.4 million dollars in Minnesota public hunting habitat since its start. This fund contributed $50,000 to the Buck Family Memorial WMA acquisition in 2006.
- Have arranged funding from Minnesota State Pheasant Stamp monies and the LadySlippers Pheasants Forever Chapter (a MN all-female chapter) to complete the final 35 acres of native grass seeding on the Buck WMA for 2009. Completed the native grass planting on the Buck WMA
