Accomplishments
- Named a 2006 Outstanding Chapter for
conservation excellence for exceeding $1,000,000 in habitat projects
during the chapter's existence.
- In cooperation with Tobias Buck, Hiawatha
Land P.F., Inc., PF National, Red Wing Wildlife League, Frontenac Sportsman's
Club, Mississippi Longtails PF Chapter, and Minnesota Deer Hunters
Association; Pheasants Forever acquired 160 acres adjacent to the Tiedemann
WMA in Zumbrota Township for the establishment of the Buck Family Memorial
WMA, dedicated to Wayne "Toby" Buck. This WMA will be MInnesota PF's
2007 Build-A-Wildlife Area Campaign project of the year.
- Secured a $12,000 Minnesota Heritage
Grant for 2007 native grass seeding on 40 acres of the new Buck Family
Memorial WMA.
- Secured a $12,300 2008 Heritage Grant to do an additional 44 acres on this WMA
- Purchased a Polaris Ranger 6 x 6 UTV with 12' aluminum trailer, and a water pump/tank unit for a cost of $15,600 for use in fire control in connection with controlled burns; conducted over 35 controlled grassland burns totaling over 400 acres.
- Certified 8 chapter volunteers as Wildland Firefighters upon completion of a 40 hr. course
- Continued the process for creation of the 50-acre Roscoe Wildlife Management Area (Trelstad parcel). This parcel was transferred to the DNR in 2007 for the seventh upland WMA in Goodhue County since 1995.
- Provided $10,000 acquisition funding for a 40-acre addition to the Warsaw Wildlife Management Area
- Secured and received a $8,329 Metro Greenways grant through Pheasants Forever National for phase II of the native grass seeding on the Hoffman WMA totaling 46 acres and completed the prairie grass establishment.
- Planted and maintained food plots on three of the country's WMA's.
- Sponsored two Advanced Youth Hunter Education Seminars for 30-40 youth at the Zumbro Valley Rifle Club
- Contracted with county farmers for approximately 50 acres per winter food plots totaling in excess of $10,500 of payments
- Acquired and distributed tons of shelled corn in the past two winters to feeders in winter shelter acres
- Continued eight nesting cover project contracts and completed two new seedings totaling 101 acres
- Gave $5,000 of funding to PF's Legislative Action Fund in Washington, which has had a major influence on the conservation element of the new farm bill. PF continues to be recognized as the most influential and effective conservation organization on agriculture issues.
- Contributed $4,000 to PF's Minnesota Habitat Fund (MHF), which was been involed in the acquisition of 9,016 acres in Minnesota for WMA's since 1998. The MHF has invested nearly 1.4 million dollars in Minnesota public hunting habitat since its start. This fund contributed $50.000 to the Buck Family Memorial WMA acquisition in 2006.
